November 21, 2020

Chelsey Hoffmann, PA-C, MS (DIET ’11, PA ’14), a physician assistant at Mayo Clinic in Rochester and clinical co-director of evaluation, Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences Physician Assistant Program; and Michael Huckabee, PhD, program director, Physician Assistant Program, were awarded the 2021 Endowment for Education Research Award from the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science.

Their research study intends to investigate the following primary hypothesis: PA students at Mayo Clinic engaged in studying and applying principles of personal wellness via an integrated, participatory, lifestyle-intervention wellness curriculum throughout their PA education will have a lower risk of depression and burnout by the end of year one. The project involves a year-long wellness program, developed in collaboration with the Dan Abraham Health Living Center staff, integrated with the PA Program’s curriculum for PA students. Pre- and post-measures will be obtained to assess wellness with a comparison group from another PA program in the region.
