Alumni making a difference: Meet the 2026 MCSHSAA award recipients

The Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences Alumni Association is proud to announce that Erin F. Barreto, Pharm.D., Ph.D. (PHRM ’11), has been selected as our Champion of Allied Health awardee. Michelle Alland, M.S.N., AGACNP-BC, FNP-C. (NP ’14), has been selected as our Recognition of Outstanding Contribution (ROC) awardee.


About Dr. Erin Barreto

Dr. Erin Barreto is an associate professor of Medicine and Pharmacy in the Department of Pharmacy and Division of Nephrology and Hypertension at Mayo Clinic in Rochester.

After finishing her Pharm.D. training at Drake University, Dr. Barreto completed her clinical pharmacy residencies in critical care at Mayo Clinic in Rochester. She subsequently completed a three-year tenure as a Kern Scholar in the Mayo Clinic Center for the Science of Health Care Delivery. She earned her Ph.D. in Clinical and Translational Science from the Mayo Graduate School at Mayo Clinic in Rochester.

Dr. Barreto has received funding from NIH, AHRQ, foundations and industry. She has authored or co-authored more than 180 peer-reviewed manuscripts and book chapters and is a recognized expert in optimizing the safe and effective use of renally-active medications.

About Michelle Alland

Michelle Alland has worked on the inpatient cardiology service at Mayo Clinic in Arizona since graduating from the Cardiology Nurse Practitioner Fellowship in 2014.

She holds an academic rank as an assistant professor of medicine and previously held an appointment as program director of the Cardiology Nurse Practitioner Fellowship from 2019-2025. She graduated with her M.S.N./F.N.P. degrees from the University of North Dakota and later earned her acute care certification through the University of Pennsylvania.

Alland has dedicated her time to numerous professional pursuits, including developing educational courses, presenting lectures, contributing to professional organizations through committee work, and mentoring/precepting learners.

We look forward to honoring them at the 2026 MCSHSAA Annual Meeting and Dinner in Rochester, Minnesota on April 17.
