Bridging generations of care: UW–La Crosse/Mayo Clinic PA alumni to reconnect in Rochester

May 9, 2025

Every year, the Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences organizes a two-week intensive, interactive course on Mayo Clinic’s Rochester campus for the Physician Assistant (PA) program at the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse.

During those two weeks, the program hosts an alumni event as a chance for current students and former alumni to connect. This event significantly impacts students as it allows them to learn about the experiences and potential career opportunities available to them upon graduation. It also helps students think more constructively about their clinical year and career planning while building connections with alumni and PAs working at Mayo Clinic.

This year, the alumni event will be held on May 21 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at The Tap House on Historic 3rd Street in Rochester, Minnesota.

All alumni of the UW-LaCrosse/Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences PA Program are invited to join.

You can RSVP for this Alumni event by emailing mlaufenberg@uwlax.edu or Ryan Meverden at meverden.ryan@mayo.edu.

History of the Physician Assistant Program at UW – La Crosse

Founded in 1995, the program was started as a tri-partnership with the Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences and Gundersen Medical Foundation, granting a Master of Science in Physician Studies to students who complete the program.

As part of the program, the two-week interactive course at Mayo serves as an opportunity for students to experience their first opportunity to integrate didactic learning with hands-on skills. During those two weeks, students work with more than 40 Mayo staff members who serve as instructors for 17 classes and workshops.
